Amos Lee: Colors

UPDATE: Amos Lee is coming to perform live at the Basement in Circulay Quay on Wednesday, 28 March 2007!

Artist: Amos Lee
Collaborator: Norah Jones

A very cool, crisp and light song.

I read that Amos Lee opens for Norah Jones in her concerts. Since 2005 he has taken his own claim to fame.

This song was used as soundtrack to Grey's Anatomy (season 2 finale), House (episode 7 season 2; title: Hunting) and the movie Just Like Heaven (Reese W and Mark R).

In the Deep

Featured Artist: Bird York (Wicked Little High, 2004)
Noted: Billboard #64 (2006 March)
Performed in 78th Academy Awards

I heard about this film "Crash" that I found out later is an Academy-award winner. I haven't seen it yet, but I got interested after seeing a video which showcased this song by Bird (Kathleen) York.

Then later I found this fan video using the same song for the film North and South. It reminded me a lot of Pride and Prejudice. Now I'm also curious to see this film as well.

All because of this song. I love it, it's beautiful.

Beautiful

Artist: Elvis Costello
Notes: Unreleased
Original Artist: Christina Aguilera

I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the song when Christina A sang it. I did. Though after a while it becomes too poppy in some way that when I heard this version by Elvis Costello played in House, I thought it was marvelous.

It was that scene when Greg was looking at motorcycles while listening to this song on his iPod, full blast, muffling the salesman's pitches. Then he takes a bike for a test ride.

Autopsy

I wonder if this Costello version will ever be released.

Teardrop

Featured artist: Massive Attack
Featured song: Teardrop (1998, Mezzanine)
Collaborating artist: Elizabeth Fraser on vocals
Genre: trip-hop
Used as soundtrack in:
House (Instrumental, opening credits)
Prison Break (Season 1, Episode 20 "Tonight")
[An emotionally charged episode may I say.]
Charmed [link to Charmed fan video]
[I can't trace which episode/season, but I'm very sure it was used.
CSI Miami (Episode: "MIA/NYC Non-Stop")
Cold Case (Episode: "Sanctuary")

Another House-introduced tune. It became so familiar that I'd pick it up very quickly when used in other shows, like Prison Break and Charmed. Hypnotic!

Time is on my side.

Purplepenelope in music frenzy! What better way to start up this series of posts than with (drum roll) the Stones!

Featured Artist: The Rolling Stones
Featured Song: Time is on my side (1965, Rolling Stones No. 2)
Original Artist: Kai Winding (1963)
Used as soundtrack in: Fallen (movie, 1998, with Denzel Washington)
Other Artists who covered this song: Michael Bolton, Cat Power, Hattie Littles, Wilson Pickett, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, The Pretty Things, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Kim Wilson, Tracy Nelson, Andres Calamaro, Vanessa Carlton

The Stones was in their first ever TV appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show (yes, the same show the Beatles first came out in, at least in the US that is) playing "Time is on my side".

The moment after seeing the movie Fallen (almost a decade ago now, wow) this song was difficult to shake off. It was infectious (very apt for the movie's theme) with its hypnotic repetition of the phrase "time is on my side, yes it is". There were two Stones songs in that movie, there was also "Sympathy for the Devil" which played in the beginning [not sure? have to go check] and end credits. For some surreal reason I developed an interest in the Stones after this movie.
